The Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science (TAMS) is a public pre-college program hosted at the University of North Texas. Students live in their own dorm and take college level courses. This program only serves juniors and seniors, who complete two years of high school and two years of college coursework simultaneously. All students must live on campus. The program is intended for the most gifted high school students in Texas interested in math and science.

Online Application Portal: Can be found here. This application is substantially similar to a standard college application. Students must be residents of Texas, but can attend public, charter, or private schools, or be homeschooled.
Standardized Tests: Either the SAT or the ACT.
Interview: Will be offered to select students after a review of the application.

Recommendations: Two letters of recommendation from current teachers.
Transcripts: Required. Students have an average of 95 or above in all classes to be admitted to TAMS.
Other materials: An Algebra test is required of all applicants. Applicants must have completed Algebra I, and completed or be currently enrolled in both Geometry and Algebra II.
Curriculum Information: Students at TAMS select one of six tracks, and have differing curriculum requirements based on the track selected. The tracks are:
Research Options: Approximately 70% of students at TAMS complete research. Students are encouraged to approach the faculty who teach their courses, and work with them on ongoing research projects.
Advanced Study Options: All of the coursework at TAMS is offered at the collegiate level for college credit, and is therefore more advanced than what you would normally find in a high school.
Educational Philosophy: The mission of the Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science is to offer an accelerated education for bright, motivated Texas high school students who have demonstrated an interest in pursuing careers in mathematics and science. The academy seeks to provide students with the companionship of peers, to encourage students to develop the creativity, curiosity, reasoning ability, and self-discipline that lead to independent thought and action, and to aid students in developing the integrity that will enable them to benefit society.
Campus Information: TAMS students take courses at UNT, both those offered specifically for their program, and integrated with the rest of the student body. All TAMS students reside in their own dorm, and share living and recreational spaces there. All students have a roommate.
Arts Programs: TAMS students may take arts courses offered at UNT. The music program is available by audition only.
Clubs: There are numerous student organizations at TAMS, and you are welcome to start your own if your interests aren’t represented.
