Created by the merger of an all-boys and all-girls schools in 1970, Choate Rosemary Hall (usually abbreviated as just Choate), is recognized as one of the top independent boarding schools in the US. Online Application Portal: You must begin by submitting an inquiry form. This will give you access to the main application portal, and allow you to schedule an online interview.
Standardized Tests: SSAT or ISEE scores are optional. For 9th grade applicants: submit SSAT or ISEE scores taken on or after June. For 10th and 11th graders: submit SSAT, ISEE, PSAT, SAT or ACT scores taken on or after last June.
Interview: All interviews are held online, and are scheduled for 45 minutes. The interviewer speaks with the student alone for the first 20-25 minutes, and then with the student and parents together.
Parent Interview: See above. A parent statement is also required.
Recommendations: Recommendations from your current math and English teachers are required, as is a letter from your counselor or principal. You may optionally submit a third teacher recommendation and/or a personal recommendation by another adult who knows you well.
Transcripts: Your current grades are required, as are academic records for the past two years.
Other materials: Applicant essays are part of the application.

Note that these are the minimum graduation requirements. We recommend, and colleges prefer to see, that students have taken four years in each of the core academic subjects: Math, English, Science, Social Studies, and a foreign language.
Language Options:
Research Options: Choate offers senior projects, which allow students to either pursue internships, or work as research assistants during the spring of their senior year. Courses on research methodology are also available to upperclassmen. There is a summer research program available to students who have taken courses on research methods.
